Propagate habitat plants at our nursery at Yellingbo
You can learn new skills in plant propagation and plant identification (Check nursery open times). Come and enjoy the colour and movement of the Blue Wrens, the sounds of Swamp Harriers high above and the company of fellow Friends as you pot up plants. Most of the volunteers bring a picnic lunch to have in the bushland surrounds.
Plant habitat in and around Yellingbo Nature Conservation Reserve
You can join the Friends group at 10am on one Sunday of every month, contact us for upcoming dates. All you will need to provide is lunch (don't forget your Blundstones or gumboots).
Or you may want to join a group from the Australian Trust for Conservation Volunteers. They provide transport to and from Yellingbo from central Melbourne. Conservation Volunteers Australia run 3 or 4 different days at Yellingbo each year.
Archiving
Use your record keeping knowledge and organisational skills, ensure the history and resources of an active community group are not lost through time.
Community Education
Use your presentation skills to assist primary & secondary students learn about the Helmeted Honeyeater, its habitat and the threats to them. Share your love of the environment. Help deliver extension activities such as environmental games or guided bush walks
Sponsor a plant
If you can afford more than our membership fee, consider sponsoring plants at $1 per plant. This money is then spent on plants that school and community groups plant within Yellingbo Nature Conservation Reserve for future habitat.
Use your own special skills
One of our members scans documents and photos for our publications. Another member does illustrations for our newsletter and another uses his birding skills by coming to every Helmeted Honeyeater survey. These examples represent only three of our members. Every one has something unique to contribute to the group. Let us know how you would like to contribute.
