18th April 2021: Rory Ellis and Jack O’Connor have put their design and artwork talents (respectively) to work, partnering with the Friends to produce some new merchandise profiling our favourite bird, the Helmeted Honeyeater.

10th March 2021: Dedicated volunteers, the Victorian Government, and Zoos Victoria today celebrate the 50th anniversary of Victoria’s precious Bird and Mammal Emblems, cutting a specially decorated cake to mark the occasion at Melbourne Zoo.

Some fun facts:
The oldest known Helmeted Honeyeater in the world is Charles Henry and he turned 21 on the 5th Dec. 2018. Charles Henry is part of the captive breeding program at Healesville Sanctuary.
The oldest living Helmeted Honeyeater in the wild turned 9 on Monday 17/12/2018. And the oldest known bird ever in the wild lived to the age of 16.
