Habitat loss is the greatest threat to the long-term survival of the Critically Endangered Helmeted Honeyeater and Leadbeater's Possum. With the guidance of a part-time paid employee, Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater volunteers grow the indigenous plants found in these species' habitat. By purchasing a plant for our habitat restoration work within Yellingbo Nature Conservation Area, you are directly helping to conserve these two species, and the many others that co-exist with them. Thank you!
Species & Conservation Status: Both the Helmeted Honeyeater and Leadbeater's Possum are listed as Critically Endangered. They were both proclaimed as Victoria's faunal (bird & mammal respectively) emblems in 1971. Sharing very similar habitat needs, what benefits one species, benefits the other. Together with Victoria's flora emblem, the Common (Pink) Heath, they co-exist nowhere else in the world - Yellingbo Nature Conservation Area.
